Little Green Guys – Sugar Bugs take over

Sugar Bugs Take Over

We all saw many lucky leprechauns among those that celebrated St. Patrick’s day and that got me thinking about some other little green guys in a book I just read. When the folks at Seasons of Smiles dental office went to Yankee Dental Congress in January we learned about lots of new technology as well as some fun treats. One of those fun treats for me was buying the book Sugar Bugs by Erica Weisz and Dr. Sam Weisz. I have been on the search for a way to explain to my children the importance of healthy eating as well as brushing and flossing. Mutans Take Over Sugar Bugs tells the story of the Mutans family which are the nasty bugs … Continue reading →

OraVerse – Reverse numbness twice as fast.

Oraverse - Can numbness be reversed?

While at Yankee Dental this year I had half a day to walk through the convention floor.  I systematically started on one end and booth by booth, made my way to the other end.  While walking through I saw the booth by Septodent.  We are fans of their products and I have been hearing about a product that they have called OraVerse. What is Oraverse? Your patient wants and needs to get on with their life without that numb, drooling, distorted face feeling. OraVerse is the only local anesthesia reversal agent that accelerates the return to normal sensation and function for patients who want to avoid the unwanted and unnecessary lingering soft tissue numbness after routine dental procedures How does OraVerse work?  It … Continue reading →

The Adventures of Quinny

Quinny makes its home.

We were so disappointed that Samantha, also known as Quinn or Quinny in our office,  was not going to be able to join us for Yankee Dental 2016.  Samantha was just a bit too busy to join us this year, understandably, with her first baby’s birth being any day now. I’m not sure who came up with the idea, but it was suggested that we make a cutout of Quinn and take photos of her on our Boston excursions, that way she would ”be with us”.  Doing this added some fun to our annual trip to Yankee Dental Conference. We sure had a ton of chuckles as we were running around town taking photos.  I hope we didn’t lose any of our FB … Continue reading →

Number Of Adults Seeking Orthodontic Treatments.

The Wall Street Journal (10/5, Reddy, Subscription Publication) reports that an increasing number of adults are seeking orthodontic treatments, and dentists are offering more discrete options. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, more than 1.2 million adults received orthodontic treatment in 2012, up 36 percent from 1996. Orthodontic procedures for children and teens rose 32 percent in that period to 4.65 million. It’s great to see a rise in statistics for orthodontic treatment, and here at the office a good 60 percent of our staff have chosen to seek orthodontic treatments in their adult years. 🙂 How about you? Join us in having a healthier smile! If you or a loved one is interested in obtaining more information about … Continue reading →

Sleepy juice and sugar bugs

Don't be scared little one.

Every January there is a large dental conference in Boston which offers dental professionals the opportunity to see what is new and up and coming in the dental field and also offers continuing education courses. One of the courses I took was in relation to pediatric dentistry. It was a great lecture given by a pediatric dentist based out of Washington state by the name of Dr. Greg Psaltis. He has been in practice for over 30 years and is now seeing children of the children he has treated over the years! The lecture offered numerous tips for treating children that could be very useful to us as practitioners but also tips that he shares with parents to help the appointments … Continue reading →

X-ray showing from a young patient with holes in his teeth.

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you come up with a great answer, but it’s too late?  While at Yankee Dental Convention in Boston this year, I found the answer to a question that was given to me earlier this year. When asked, I didn’t have a great answer.  But if the question ever comes up again, I hope I will have more to share on the topic. The question that was asked was derived from the x-ray shown.  The young mother is a very articulate, educated women who is very protective of her child. The mother was very much against x-rays, but when explained that we would be unable to do a filling on a … Continue reading →

1 800 dentists

Dr. Medina meets Fred Joyal cofounder of 1 800 dentist.

Are you looking for a dentist in the Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Belfast or midcoast area of Maine? We can be reached at 1-207-236-4740, or after hours at (877) 437-2644. Through the years we have been coming to Yankee Dental, a January yearly conference in Boston. A few years back we took a course where a book was highly recommended. Everything is Marketing by Fred Joyal. I started reading the book with an open mind, because I wanted to learn to customize my treatments to what is best for my patients. And I was just curious to see what the book had to say. The book was written for dentists, which I thought was great.  I loved all the advice that … Continue reading →

Dental Consultants

January of this year 2013, when we went to Yankee Dental, I took a class from Dr. Levin from the Levin Group, Inc.  I can’t remember why I signed up for the class, all I know as I listened to the lecture is that I felt overwhelmed.  There was so much information that I didn’t know, information that I wanted to know.  Questions that had to do with the business side of dentistry.  As I listened to his lecture, I became aware of the concept of a dental coach. I want a dental coach. I know there are personal trainers that can help you with losing weight or trainers for riding bikes, where they help you peddle faster, farther, better. … Continue reading →

Dental X-rays and Southwest Airlines

Logo of Southwest Airlines

We at Seasons of Smiles Dental are so excited about Southwest Airlines flying in and out of Portland Maine.  We just love Manchester New Hampshire, we have driven there so many times, sometimes I think we can drive there with our eyes closed.  Have you ever picked up loved ones at the airport in Manchester?  It’s an all day event.  If we have a choice though, Portland Maine would be my pick. But what in the world does Southwest Airlines, or flying, have to do with dental X-rays? Last week we were at Yankee Dental taking some continuing education courses. We were in a lecture given by Dr. Gordon J. Christensen. I just love listening to Dr. Christensen’s lectures. He … Continue reading →
