So, when I read the email from the American Dental Association, I couldn’t help but chuckle; it brought Trump’s leadership right into our little dental lives. Memo from the ADA. Starting in 2010, dental offices in Maine were required to get amalgam separators. We play by the rules, and we got our dental unit right away. The idea behind the amalgam separators is that they REMOVE metal and mercury from our suction units BEFORE it enters our town’s wastewater system. Is Camden’s wastewater treatment plant useful? Kristin started the day by presenting a talk entitled a “Path to Success,” in her talk, she discussed seven steps for the journey. The first step to a successful dental practice is to start out by verbalizing what I am grateful for and then creating an ongoing list. So to take our dental practice to the next level, I need to start by listing all the great things that are happening to our patients … Continue reading →

Take a moment to review some basic information and maintain a healthy mouth. Choose your weapon – Select a brush with soft bristles that fits your mouth and is comfortable to hold. Perfect your technique – Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle to your gums. Use short strokes and an up-and-down motion. Add another rep – Brush two times a day is great, but three times is ideal. So what is the first step? I would recommend measuring where you’re at before you start. If I may explain. Have you ever been on a diet? How do you know if it’s working? You measure. Before you start on the diet, you jump on the scale. And as time progresses with your diet, you jump on the scale to check if the pounds are coming off. How often do you jump on the scale? Every other day? Once a week? Before you start your diet, how many pounds are you hoping to loose? How many pounds … Continue reading →

There are many effective methods Today’s tooth bleaching materials are composed primarily of either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Many whitening techniques have proven to be effective, although results vary depending on type of stain, type of bleaching product and other factors. 2. Different shades yield different results Certain stains respond better to bleaching than others. Whitening products work the best on teeth with yellowish color. Brown staining doesn’t respond quite as well. Teeth with a grayish or purple color are typically the most difficult to whiten. 3. You’ll repeat the process Tooth whitening is not permanent. Hooray for a healthy mouth! https://seasons-of-smiles.com/hooray-healthy-mouth.htm https://seasons-of-smiles.com/hooray-healthy-mouth.htm#respond Wed, 31 Aug 2016 18:28:19 +0000 https://seasons-of-smiles.com/?p=13178 We recently had the pleasure of completing a month long endeavor  to achieve and maintain one of our long time patients’ oral health. Through the combined efforts of myself, Samantha Quinn and our patient, Dick Householder,  we saw some fabulous results on his journey to a healthy mouth. He was so thrilled with the results that he allowed us to share his success story in hopes that it will encourage others who are wanting a healthier mouth. Dick’s commitment of coming to our office on an average of 3 times a week for irrigation over a time span of 4 weeks, along with his particular attention to performing great home care, shined through in his recent examination!  As clinicians, this is … Continue reading →

Sockit! – Patient Instruction Sheet https://seasons-of-smiles.com/sockit-patient-instruction-sheet.htm https://seasons-of-smiles.com/sockit-patient-instruction-sheet.htm#respond Wed, 17 Aug 2016 13:36:03 +0000 https://seasons-of-smiles.com/?p=13136 We at Season of Smiles Dental know that removing a tooth can be a very unpleasant experience.  We are continuously looking for products to make the transition as comfortable as possible.  One product that we have been using for a while now is called Sockit! and I found it while perusing the booths at Yankee Dental Convention.  I’m always on the look out for products that will help mouth sores, since I have a sensitive mouth and I’m susceptible to canker sores. When I looked at the ingredients, I said ”this is great! all natural food ingredients, soothing healing oils; let’s try it!” What is SockIt! made of? SockIt! is made from food ingredients, with no artificial components.  SockIt! contains mannose polysaccharides from Aloe vera, xylitol and a tiny … Continue reading →

Is there really such a thing as a tooth tattoo? https://seasons-of-smiles.com/is-there-really-such-a-thing-as-a-tooth-tattoo.htm https://seasons-of-smiles.com/is-there-really-such-a-thing-as-a-tooth-tattoo.htm#respond Sun, 14 Aug 2016 19:20:25 +0000 https://seasons-of-smiles.com/?p=13096 A few years back my wife and I took some time off to walk up and down Atlantic Avenue for the Camden ME Arts and Crafts show.  My wife who is always on the lookout for making a new friend, overheard a conversation that a “tourist” was having with one of the artisans, and she overheard the “tourist” verbalize that he was a tooth artist. My dear wife then came over to me, and suggested that I should go over and talk to the “tourist”, that mostly likely he was a dentist too. Ok, that’s not going to happen.  I remember thinking, “Leave him alone Lanita, he is on vacation.” While later on in the same day Lanita happened to run into the … Continue reading →

On Retainers and Other Dog Toys https://seasons-of-smiles.com/retainers-dog-toys.htm https://seasons-of-smiles.com/retainers-dog-toys.htm#respond Tue, 02 Aug 2016 19:14:27 +0000 https://seasons-of-smiles.com/?p=12967 Dogs love chewing on plastic retainers. I am convinced that all canines believe retainers should fit in their mouth since they fit so nicely in yours. However, this is just one of many ways you can lose your precious teeth-stabilizers. Maybe the dog got it, or after wrapping it up in a napkin at lunch time you never found it again. I have never lost mine literally, but if you saw my retainer, you’d say it was a lost cause. It has been 5 years since I got my braces off and I haven’t had a new retainer since. So, I hit up the dentist for a possible upgrade. When I approached my dad, Dr. Medina, about my retainer, all … Continue reading →
