Dental Exam Went Well? Thank Fluoride.

Dental Exam Went Well? Thank Fluoride.

Fluoride – This is a controversial topic that has many differences of opinion.  Here is an article that describes nicely how we feel.  The title of this article is “Dental Exam Went Well? Thank Fluoride”, and it is written by Jane E. Brody.  A few points that we feel are important.

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls fluoridation one of the ten most valuable public health measures of the 20th century.
  • The annual cost that today ranges from 95 cents to as much as $10 per person.
  • Every $1 invested in fluoridation saves approximately $38 in dental treatment costs
  • The government recommends that fluoride not be given to babies younger than six months
  • infant formula should be prepared with water that is not fluoridated
  • children younger than two should not use fluoridated toothpaste
  • Those younger than six should use it only with supervision, to be sure they spit it out.

This article can be read here in its entirety, New York Times.

  3. (Health and Beauty) My experience and why I like it: I have been using Tom’s of Maine fuorlide free toothpaste for almost two years now and am glad I made the switch. I originally switched mainly due to fear after hearing the dangers of fuorlide. However, this is controversial and I will not go too much in depth. However, what I did realize was that I am probably swallowing a decent amount of fuorlide by not completely rinsing my mouth out every time I brush (usually I just swish/spit once). By using this toothpaste you will not have to worry about swallowing the toothpaste as there is no warning label on it, though i don’t recommend swallowing it. Though fuorlide free, it offers much protection against cavities as I am a twice a day brusher and have actually seen a decrease in cavities after switching. If combined with flossing (as I only recently have started doing), you will almost certainly not get any cavities. You do have to get used to the more bland taste of this (no artificial sweeteners), but it is not repulsive at all. Since making the switch, I had have experienced a dramatic decrease in canker sores likely caused by harsh ingredients in typical Colgate and Crest toothpaste. Soon more people will make the switch to more natural toothpastes like this. If you want the benefits of natural toothpastes, try Tom’s of Maine or even Burt’s Bees (which my dentist recommended). It is about as all natural as a toothpaste can get while still being effective. Overall: The only thing lacking about this toothpaste is the flavor and I noticed it has less ingredients than some of Tom’s other toothpastes. I personally prefer Tom’s Peppermint Flouride Free over this. Purpose of all the Ingredients and where they come from: Sorbitol Moistener (Corn (Zea mays)) Hydrated Silica Stain removal(Purified silica from the earth) Glycerin Moistener (Vegetable Oils) Xybitol Flavor (Birch trees or corn) Natural Flavors Flavor (Spearment Leaves) Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Dispersant (Derived from coconut and/or palm kernel oil) Xanthan Gum Gelling agent (Fermentation of vegetable matter)

    1. Hello Milissa McDonal, . . . chuckle . . ., I’m not sure, but I think I get it. I may not understand the lyrics, but the music videos have a great sound. Best of luck, and thanks for stopping by.
