Bike Maine 2013

Bike Maine 2013

The minute I learned of Bike Maine’s inaugural ride, I knew I wanted to go. A couple of other great rides here in the state of Maine are Trek across Maine and the Dempsey Challenge. I did participate the second year of the Dempsey Challenge, I even have a jersey, but I always wished I had gone their first year. I don’t know if Bike Maine will be able to make a go of it every year, but I knew I wanted to go on their first. My Review of Bike Maine 2013 On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give the Bike Coalition of Maine  a 10+, on hosting their first week long event.  I enjoyed every moment … Continue reading →

Nemo 2013 – Camden, Rockland, Midcoast – Maine

Downtown Rockland Maine in the middle of Nemo blizzard

Cabin fever has set in and Lanita and I are dying to get out. We are in the middle of a classic Nor’Easter. They have given this blizzard a name, Nemo. Lanita and I jump in the Suburban and drive from Camden to Rockland Maine taking pictures. I kept thinking, this sure would be silly to get stuck or have a fender bender, just for the sake of a joy ride. Lanita has a positive outlook on life, pedal to the metal and all that, there was no keeping her home. As usual she is right, we had a blast sliding around!!! A few pictures to give you a small taste of what a nor-easter is like in midcoast Maine. … Continue reading →

Pemaquid Oyster Festival 2012 – Damariscotta

Main Street in Damariscotta Maine. Waltz Rexall

It’s a rainy Sunday afternoon, and I have four hours to spend in Damariscotta.  As I drive into town, the first thing I noticed is all the people that are milling around.  Parking is SCARCE, and I see a big yellow tent on the waterfront.  When I walk up to the greeter positioned in front of the yellow tent, I ask him what’s the event?  He tells me that it is the Oyster Festival.  Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the Festival. Pemaquid’s Oyster Festival … Continue reading →

Moody’s Diner Waldoboro Maine

Inside view of Moody's Diner

It’s been a long day, and we are driving home. It’s suppertime and we are hungry. We are still 30 minutes from home. Should we wait to eat at home or should we eat at Moody’s! That’s an easy decision to make. We at Seasons of Smiles Dental applaud Moody’s for offering great food and service to our community for over 85 years! The following information was taken off our paper advertisement placemat. Moody’s Diner Waldoboro Maine Welcome to Moody’s — We are often asked how Moody’s began. In 1927, 3 small cabins were built on the present Route 1A. These cabins were simple, no heat or running water, renting for a $1.00 a person. At the end of that … Continue reading →

Plenty of tourists in town, with a schedule full of events for the weekend. The seasons are changing here in Maine, and we at Seasons of Smiles Dental are grateful that we have so much to smile about. … Continue reading →

Union Maine

Knox County Fair

From what I understand the Union fair started in 1869, just a few years after the American Civil War. I can’t help but wonder, how little has it changed? The horse racing, all the displays, quilts, jams and jellies, and the farm animals. The Union fair is a small gift that gives us a glimpse of what it was like in rural Maine – then and now. … Continue reading →

Thomaston Maine

Driving into Thomaston Maine

It was October of 1994 and we were living in a tent trailer with 3 kids on the coast of Maine. It was getting too cold. In the mornings we would get the blow dryer to warm up the inside on the tent trailer. It was time to get a job and go back to work. We found a house to rent in Thomaston Maine. It was such a comforting feeling unloading the tent trailer in our new home. Here are a few photos from this beautiful part of New England. … Continue reading →
