Samantha is a Sloppy Brusher
Samantha is a Sloppy Brusher
Since Samantha has such success with her tooth brushing, she is now teaching the entire dental office how to brush their teeth. Even Dr. Norman Medina is taking notes on Samantha’s oral hygiene recommendations! Here are some tips we’ve learned from Samantha:
- Brush twice a day, for at least two minutes a day. Make no mistake about it, Samantha brushes her teeth twice a day, for a minimum of two minutes. She begins at the upper right molars, and then works in a clockwise direction. With her toothbrush at a 45-degree angle into the gum line, Samantha uses short, circular motions. She then makes her way to the front teeth, continuing with gentle, round strokes. Samantha also brushes behind her teeth, including the upper and lower incisors – areas that are often missed by most tooth brushers. She then brushes the top surfaces of her teeth. Finally, she cleans her tongue and the insides of her cheeks. Whew – no wonder she doesn’t have any cavities!
Samantha teaches the Seasons of Smiles dental team how to brush properly. - Floss at least once every single day. Samantha takes her flossing very seriously, and we here at the office are taking notes. Samantha wraps a generous piece of floss around her middle fingers, then guides it with her thumbs and index fingers, with about one to two inches of length in between. She wraps the floss in a “C” shape around one tooth, and moves the floss up and down the length of the tooth, all the way into the gum line. Then, she repeats that process on the neighboring tooth – and she doesn’t stop until every tooth has been properly cleaned.
- Use mouthwash daily. After brushing and flossing, Samantha uses a non-alcohol, antibacterial mouthwash. This not only freshens her breath, but it helps keep harmful microbes at bay for optimal oral health. She swishes for about 30 seconds to one minute, twice a day.

No wonder Samantha is the “Picasso of Pearly Whites”! Although she makes a mess, she has no tooth decay, gum disease, or any other dental issues. Needless to say, Dr. Medina and his staff at Seasons of Smiles are always stocking up on cleaning supplies to wipe up after Samantha brushes her teeth.
